THE uncut version of model Michelle Leslie's ordeal in Bali would be revealed to Australians by the end of January, her lawyer said yesterday.

Lawyer Ross Hill dismissed an Indonesian judicial inquiry into the leniency of Ms Leslie's three-month jail sentence as "misguided, baseless and unnecessary".
He also denied the inquiry would delay the trials of four of the Bali Nine accused.

Police begin the year on a sus

Five cops have been suspended in the first week of 2007

The New Year began on a bitter note for the police force. As many as five policemen were suspended in the first week of 2007. According to statistics, thirty-five cops were suspended in 2006. The suspensions — five — in the first week itself suggest that the number will go up this year.

PSI Pundalik Shettye and constable Sanjay Yadav from Kurla police station were suspended for not effectively handling bandobast duty at Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi. Sr PI Kishan Agarkar attached to the Social Service Branch of the city police was suspended for threatening a lodge owner at Vakola.

Constable Mahendra More from Crime Branch unit 8 at Andheri was arrested in a trap laid by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly accepting bribe and was suspended later. But the stain on the khakee became more conspicuous after constable Rajendra Pawar attached to the Azad Maidan police station was arrested for allegedly molesting a hawker and later suspended.

Senior police officers said the suspension was not the remedy to bring more discipline in the force.

“We should find out whether after the suspension, the level of discipline in the police department has improved or not. Also during the suspension period, the policemen draw their salary and in most cases are not bothered by the disciplinary action,” retired DGP Suryakant Jog told DNA.
