'Corruption risk high' at St K
THREE senior officers at St Kilda police station have been transferred following a lengthy internal investigation that has led to the workplace being declared a "high-risk corruption station".

Uganda: Police Discharges 9 Co

THE Police disciplinary committee has recommended the discharge of nine officers from the force for allegedly extorting money from the public.

Police said the officers were also discharged because of theft, drunkenness and absenteeism. The nine officers are among the 13 policemen, who were arrested last week and detained at CPS for extortion.

"The Police disciplinary court recommended them for discharge. But the Inspector General of Police has the final decision," the Regional Police Commander Kampala Extra, Mr Grace Turyagumanawe, said.

The officers who were discharged include Police constables, special police constables and detective constables.

They include, Mr J.M. Omara, Mr Richard Otung, Mr A. Isabirye, Mr E. Mawadri, Mr Hasasya, Mr Opio, Mr Michael Wenani, Mr Katungi and Mr N. Ndumba.

Turyagumanawe said the officers had room to appeal to Regional Appellate Court the the Police headquarters.

He said other three officers were still under investigations and they would appear in court on charges of theft.

These include Mr Lwanyaga, Mr Ongei Jenaro and Mr Ben Ekirapa. Among the 13 officers only Mr Henry Sempa managed to survive the discharge since he was proved not guilty of the offences.
